This track was originally meant to be part of my soundtrack for “EarthNight” (out now on Apple Arcade, Steam, Switch, and PS4!). We planned a portion of the game where the player would have their choice of hopping on one of three themed dragons: a "city" dragon, a "water" dragon, and a "sand/desert" dragon. Unfortunately, we ended up cutting this entire part, but not before I worked on songs for each of these themed dragons. “The Other Kid” was intended to be the Sand dragon theme.

Now, if you’ve played the game and are an astute phan, you might’ve noticed we included a slew of hidden references to my (and the rest of the dev team’s) favorite band, Phish, in "EarthNight." In that spirit, this song itself was written as a sort of tribute — maybe even a loving parody, to some extent — to those four dudes from Vermont. If you know their music, maybe you’ll recognize some of the tracks I referenced. (One of them is really obvious, given what I've explained here.) If not, that's fine! Just, you know, enjoy it, haha. Thanks!

(One final piece of trivia: Each dragon level song in “EarthNight” also has a short accompanying “boss battle” variation song to accompany it. Even though “The Other Kid” didn’t make it into the game, its boss battle variation DID. Can you find it on the soundtrack?? Give it a listen and see if you can figure out which track it is!)
